I left Cape Coast for Accra this morning after a quick stop at the castle. The three hours ride was not as exhausting as it was when I was going because the vehicle was air conditioned with enough leg room..
First stop in Accra was the hotel, and then I decided to follow my itinerary for the day. Go to Makola Market for souvenirs, go to Light House, stop at the fishing village at Jamestown, go to the mall, go round town, Osu area and try Waakye.
My plans were to climb the LightHouse Towers but I was informed it was under construction. A guy around took it upon himself to give me a brief history of the place which looks a lot like Makoko area of Lagos. Kwame Nkrumah was imprisoned in one of the buildings for two years, and the River just like the one at Cape Coast played a role in the transportation of slaves during the 1800s. Adjacent to the lighthouse is the first hotel in Ghana, where Queen Elizabeth lodged upon her visit. One interesting fact about these places is no renovation work has been carried on them, except the lighthouse.
My guide was kind enough to accept a small donation for showing me round.
More about the rest of my itinerary will be posted later. I am so exhausted from today. Everything I wrote in my travel itinerary to Ghana has worked out perfectly.
Tomorrow is strictly for rest, and then a feast before saying goodbye to Ghana.
